Jameson listened while Blair spoke her mind.

“We cannae discuss this all night. One of the main reasons that I will stay is that me mother always believed that there should also be follow-up care to confirm that healing has started and is going well. So, by staying, it will be the solution for me professional struggle about how to be sure that ye get the proper long term care that ye will need for yer wounds so that ye donnae get any potentially fatal complications.”

Jameson realized that this woman shared many of the traits that he had inherited from his ancestors. Characteristics like resiliency, strength, compassion for others, perseverance, mental fortitude, and command of her emotions. She may have also inherited a bit of wildness and eccentricity from her mother, but that remained to be seen. Jameson had heard a few stories of Mary MacManus’s renaissance after the death of her husband. She was said to be a bit less concerned with propriety than even the most average of skilled healers because conforming to society’s norms could be the furthest thing from a healer’s mind. For example, often a healer would be detained at the keep of a patient who needed overnight care, which meant that the healer could not return to her own home that evening.

“I am verra surprised and pleased that ye have decided to stay. Thank ye, again.” Jameson asked, “Do ye think that ye can grow, in time, to find some joy with me clan?”

“Donnae worry that I have agreed to stay just because there is nae other choice, Jameson,” she responded. “I find great joy in me healing practice, wherever I may be.”

I have me own suspicions that maybe, just maybe, the lass is partly drawn to adventure, which may have also contributed to her decision to stay.

Jameson realized that he had experienced change. Life was all about love, suffering, enlightenment, change.

He had suffered the death of his loving parents and others. He’d battled through the emotional pain of his losses, and he knew that he had exhibited overwhelming, all-encompassing rage and violence due to the agony. Then next, he had suffered the debilitating injuries which led, ultimately, to his enlightenment that love was all that mattered. His convictions to change his outlook, change his actions, and change his life had opened the door for love.

Typically, Jameson was not the type of man who would romance a woman for favors. He had not needed anyone in his life other than his parents and closest friends. He was fair and patient with all who knew him, and he truly detested the fact that he had to perform trickery and lead a gang of marauders, even if temporarily, but he had never taken the time to fully open his eyes or his heart. He was not sure how he could make himself vulnerable to the lass, for he knew that was what it would take to win her completely into his life, being open and ready for love.
